The Introduction

In addition to his famous mask, Gerry Cheevers was known as a “money” goaltender and third defenseman for his aggressive, outside-the-crease style of play. During his 24-year pro career (1956-1980) he recorded 230 wins, enjoyed a 26-game shutout run and went undefeated for 32 consecutive games, a record that still stands. He took the cup with Boston in 1970 and 1972  and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1985.

Appearance | Clear ruby-red with a dissipating hefty off-white head

Smell | Caramel, grains, and notes of nuts.

Taste | Nutty, caramel, grains, malts, and notes of dark fruit.

Overall | This is the fourth edition in the NHL Signature Series, joining Jake The Snake, Johnny Bower, Curtis Joseph, and Darcy Tucker.   From Lake of Bays Brewing Co., this is the Stitches Oktoberfest Lager.

Out of the bottle pours a clear ruby red with a hefty off-white head that quickly dissipated.    The aroma presence of nutty, caramel, grains, and malts.   When drinking it, the taste isn’t far from the aromas with the addition of dark fruit.   The caramel with the nuttiness really comes through. Stitches is a medium-bodied that has a whooping 8% (but you hardly taste the ABV!).

Out of the NHL Signature Series (so far), Stitches Oktoberfest Lager is the best ale.   Lake of Bays recently announced that the next edition will be none other than Darcy Tucker, entitled ‘Crazy Eyes’, a Winter Bock Lager.  It will be released in December 2014.

Just like Top Shelf Classic Lager, a portion of Stitches Oktoberfest Lager sales will go to the NHL Alumni Association, a not-for-profit organization whose many charitable causes include assisting former NHL players in their transition from professional hockey. The benefit of drinking this beer is two-fold: this is a great way to support retired hockey players and your local Ontario breweries.
