The Introduction

Similar to a barley wine, this rare style of beer has a high alcohol content but features a milder wheat body that is pale gold in colour.  Aged in cabernet franc wine barrels, this beer takes on fruity grape aromas and slightly tannic flavours which blend perfectly with the aromatic and moderately bitter hop presence. This effervescent and unique ale is full of fruity grape character with a gentle alcohol finish. Sleet Wheat Wine is the perfect beer to share while you weather the winter!

Appearance | Unfiltered orange with a foamy white head.

Smell |  White grapes and dried fruits.

Taste |  Dryness, tartness, dried fruits, wine-ish.

Overall |   All work, no play makes Jack a dull boy. Not with this beer! From Wellington Brewery, this is the Sleet Wheat Wine.

I have to admit that I’ve been disappointed with some of the Welly one-offs this past year.   One of them was definitely the candidate for the worst beer of the year in opinion (and that was Kentucky Common). However Sleet Wheat Wine didn’t let me down one bit.  The amazing artwork on the label makes it unique and recognizable on the shelves. It pours an unfiltered orange with a foamy head that quickly dissipates, lacing the glass with every sip.   It has aromas of white grapes and dried fruits, similar to a white wine. This is a very good Welly One-Off and a great component in the DecemBEER series.

This is a wonderful beer to share with your family and friends.   To simplify this beer, it’s a wheat beer aged in a wine barrel.  You will get strong notes of the wine (white grapes, dried fruits, and tartness) and at 11.5%, you hardly taste the alcohol.    The artwork features the famous Jack Nicholson in ‘The Shining’ and would make a great addition to any collection of bottles!

Once it warms up, it can be boozy.  That’s expected at 11.5% and you know what?  It’s a fine Welly One-Off.
