From Nickel Brook Brewing;

“We kicked it up a notch with our Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout,aging it in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. The rich chocolate, coffee and dark fruit flavours from our Imperial Stout are married together with the vanilla, oak and warming alcohol from bourbon barrels.  Together as one,the result is an incredible blend of aroma and taste. Drink it today, or cellar it to enjoy later as it matures. Cheers!”

Appearance | Pitch black with an initially foamy head, that settles into a mocha lace head.

Smell | Notes of bourbon, oak, chocolate, cherries, vanilla, and coffee.

Taste | Chocolate, coffee, cherries, oaky, and notes of bourbon.

Aftertaste | Cherries, chocolate, coffee, and notes of bourbon.

Overall |  To sum it up in one word, wow.   This is a mellowed heavy brew that has a smooth and creamy texture.  Truly a ‘Winter Warmer’ brew.   Nickel Brook Brewing Co. suggests that the drinker can drink it right away or cellar it to enjoy later as it matures. If the drinker enjoyed Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout (available in OCB Discovery Pack & Brewery), this is a must-try. It is actually same brew but aged in Kentucky Bourbon barrels (brilliant!).  The notes of bourbon are there,  but are not overpowering.  Purchasing one to try was not enough,  the Brew Head wishes that he got another bottle to cellar for a year.  Something to note is that  like the Maple Porter, the wax seal can be irksome (try using a the blade of a wine opener). Struggling with the wax seal is a small toll to pay in order to try this great brew.

Also, Nickel Brook Brewing Co.  changed their logo.  Check it out.
