TRADITIONAL IPA BY WATERLOO BREWING CO.

  • STYLE: IPA
  • ABV: 5.2%
  • COUNTRY: Canada
  • REGION: Waterloo, ON
  • BREWERY: Waterloo Brewing Co. (Division of Brick Brewing)

From Waterloo Brewing Co,

Waterloo IPA is a distinctively Canadian IPA that combines the citrus and floral hop aroma of American IPAs with the sweetness, body and finish of British-style India Pale Ales.

IPA’s that emphasize hop flavour and aroma over bitterness, Like Waterloo IPA, are perfectly paired with foods that have spicy Asian flare! The hop flavour melds wonderfully with common Asian spices like sweet and sour peanut sauce and fresh cilantro. This IPA is also perfectly matched with Pad Thai or Indian dishes that include spices like tamarind, coriander and cardamom.

Appearance | Amber orange with a decent sudsy white head that disappeared quickly.

Smell | Citrus, pine, malts, grain, bread and light hops.

Taste | Citrus, malts, grain, and light hops.

Aftertaste | Light bitterness and citrus notes.

Overall | It’s a medium bodied IPA that doesn’t taste like a IPA.   It’s not very hoppy and very sweet for an typical IPA.  This  Traditional IPA  is lacking hops, it doesn’t have to be a ‘hopbomb’ by standard.    However, it’s a decent session brew that would easily pass as a pale ale, not a IPA.    It would pair well with pizza & wings.

Waterloo’s Summer Small Batch Brews are available for a limited time this summer at select LCBO and Beer Store locations across Ontario in 6x473mL packs for $13.50.
