LONG, DARK VOYAGE TO URANUS WHISKEY BARREL-AGED EDITION BY SAWDUST CITY BREWING CO.
- STYLE: Russian Imperial Stout
- COUNTRY: Canada
- REGION: Gravenhurst, ON
- BREWERY: Sawdust City Brewing Co.
This is the ‘sequel’ to Long, Dark Voyage to Uranus which has been aged in a whiskey barrel. It’s in limited quantity on tap at Woolwich Arrow. (Long gone!)
Appearance | Pitch black with a dark brown head that disappeared quickly after being poured.
Smell | Sharp notes of whiskey, peat, and minimal notes of vanilla.
Taste | Whiskey, burnt sugar, dark chocolate, earth, roasted malts, smoke, hops, and peat.
Aftertaste | Heavy notes of whiskey, peat, and smoke. Bitterness sets in shortly after finishing.
Overall | As one would expect from something inspired by whiskey, it hits you like a punch in the face. While it is an initial shock to the palate, this transforms into a smooth drink with a bitter aftertaste. It is best served at room temperature; it gets easier to drink as it becomes warmer. The sweet taste of coffee and dark chocolate offsets the high ABV, making it dangerously enjoyable.
